Position Description: Trinity Cathedral seeks an organized, detail-oriented, and relational individual for the full-time position of Director of Operations for Trinity Cathedral and Trinity Commons. This position supports the Dean and Vestry of the Cathedral by offering management and maintenance of the property – including management and maintenance of the historic 1907 Cathedral building and the campus of the community-facing Trinity Commons – and administrative support for the operations staff and internal structures that assure that our community and congregational ministries are effective and vibrant.
The Director of Operations will work closely with the Dean and Vestry to offer operational support to carry out Trinity’s vital ministry, and assure that our facilities are managed and sustained for years to come.
Primary Responsibilities:
Cathedral and Commons Facilities Maintenance
- Direct maintenance for Trinity Commons and Trinity Cathedral, including management of the historic cathedral building and the Trinity Commons campus
- Supported by a Facilities Lead and a team of Stewards (custodial workers), ensure that our spaces are clean, well-maintained, and ready for use
- Manage Facilities personnel, including hiring and performance management
- Maintain and revise as needed a comprehensive Facilities manual, including best practices, vendors, and procedures
Trinity Commons Management
- Coordinate and oversee the scheduling, space use, and setup needs for Trinity Commons; work collegially with Trinity and Diocesan staff to balance internal and external space requests
- Oversee Hospitality, Reception, and Guest Care, with a team of 2-3 Hospitality Coordinators (receptionists). Manage hospitality personnel, including hiring and performance management
- Maintain the administration of the parking lot, a critical source of revenue
- Serve as lead relationship manager for partner organizations who use Trinity Commons on a regular basis
- Serve as lead relationship manager for Euclid Storefront Tenants (currently 3 spaces), including negotiations for leases etc.
- Ensure the safety and security of Trinity Cathedral and Trinity Commons
Administration and Collaborative Leadership
- Establish and maintain internal policies and procedures for Cathedral staff
- Maintain an effective physical and digital file structure, including stewardship of archival records
- Work collegially with Controller to ensure effective financial stewardship of Trinity Cathedral and Trinity Commons
- Serve as point of contact and oversight for IT contractor
- Work with Development personnel to ensure sustainable recordkeeping, and to explore revenue sources for operations projects
Long-Term Capital Planning
- Maintain, follow, and revise ongoing 5-year capital needs list, in collaboration with the Property and Sustainability committee of the Vestry
Operations Project Management
- Serve as Operations Project Manager for specific projects essential to the proper functioning of Trinity Commons and Trinity Cathedral
- Take a leadership role in regular Property and Sustainability Committee Meetings, including meeting agendas, material preparation and follow-through
Other duties, as required
- Support additional development-related tasks as assigned
Reporting
The Director of Operations reports to the Dean of Trinity Cathedral and works collaboratively with Trinity staff, clergy, and volunteer leadership, particularly those supporting property maintenance and special projects.
The Director of Operations will supervise the operations staff of stewards and hospitality coordinators: currently, two full-time and three part time workers, and will supervise vendors and contractors who serve at Trinity.
Education, Skills and Knowledge:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, operations management, nonprofit management, facilities management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant professional experience will be considered.
- Five or more years of progressive experience in operations management, facilities/property management, nonprofit administration, hospitality management, institutional operations, or a related field, including experience supervising staff and managing vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to improve organizational processes, implement effective systems, manage change, and support the long-term sustainability of an organization.
- Knowledge of data practices, clerical practices, human resources practices, business principles, vender management and facilities operations,and management principles.
- Dedicated to the vision and mission of Trinity Cathedral.
Schedule and Requirements
This is a full-time exempt position. The position requires the ability to attend meetings and events at the cathedral, including several evening committee meetings per month. Extended hours are sometime required based on need, and the schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays depending on the season and event calendar. Sundays are not required though visibility is vital, and operations staff are required whenever the Cathedral is open to the community.
Compensation: $85K-100K annually and excellent benefits including family health, vision, and dental insurance, short-term disability, life insurance, and a retirement plan.
