The Trinity Cathedral Property and Sustainability Committee is a standing committee of the Vestry and members include Vestry representatives and the Operations Director. The Committee functions as an advisory group to staff and the Vestry. The “property” aspects include serving as advisor and resource to staff in planning specific projects; when warranted by the complexity of the project, recommending the employment of design professionals and/or specialized consultants; and receiving and considering input from users of the building and site. The “sustainability” aspects encompass multiple areas to be considered in balance, within overall decision-making, including: Implementing initiatives and projects that are environmentally responsible and beneficial to the mission of Trinity Cathedral; making decisions that are financially prudent with the objective of sustaining and strengthening Trinity’s financial performance; and maintaining, enhancing, and preserving our historic heritage, specifically the treasures of our historic buildings while promoting Trinity’s mission.
A summary of 2025 projects completed so far includes completion of the first four stained glass windows as a part of a long-term stained glass refurbishment project; recommendations from specialized building consultant WJE on a Cathedral masonry crack investigation; receiving a mechanical system assessment report from mechanical engineer Karpinski Engineering; and projects such as replacing a heat pump motor in the diocesan offices, repair of the altar rail in the Chapel, repair of vandalism to the Baptismal statuary.
A summary of 2025 projects that are underway or anticipated to start includes the next phase of stained glass window refurbishment; exterior masonry repairs such as window opening repairs in conjunction with Stained Glass; Church House west elevation small tower repair; Church House east alley ground level tuckpointing; Church House south lintel repairs; Commons south entrance lintel repairs; Cathedral crack monitoring as follow-up to the crack investigation report; Cathedral exterior wood door refinishing; Church House “oriel” window repair; Church House basement foundation leak repair; and multiple mechanical maintenance projects.
A summary of planning for future (2026 and beyond) projects includes the next phases of stained glass refurbishment; the next phases of masonry restoration and repair; replacement of two mechanical system energy recovery ventilation units; replacement and upgrading of HVAC controls and Building Automation Systems; courtyard paver system replacement; Cathedral marble floor repairs; Cathedral tower louver repairs; Commons carpet replacement; Cathedral lighting upgrades, and other projects.
While the natural weather elements, gravity, normal aging of building materials, and other physical factors continue to challenge our property, we are also addressing new programming and functional needs as our use of the buildings and grounds evolves over time. We are grateful stewards of the tremendous gift that has been given to us in this place of ministry and mission, Trinity Cathedral. We are interested in your comments and welcome your involvement.
