At the heart of Trinity Cathedral’s vibrant community life is Eric Travis, the Associate for Congregational Ministry.  Through children’s programs and mission teams, Eric helps provide the framework for a thriving church family.

Q: How would you describe Congregational Life at Trinity?

A: Congregational Life is all about the relationships and activities that bring us together outside of regular worship. It includes things like our church picnic, outings with the Trinity Trekkers, or gathering for special events like a fun day.

Q: What drew you to this kind of ministry work?

A: As a children’s and youth minister, I’ve always been passionate about helping people feel connected—to each other and to God. I’ve always been drawn to those personal connections and cherish the ways people have brought me into community, so I love creating those same opportunities for others.

Q: What does a “typical week” look like for you?

A: My weeks are wonderfully full and always changing! Much of my time is dedicated to planning and running children’s and youth ministry activities, like Sunday School, Children’s Chapel, the Soft Space in the Nave, Youth Group events, mission opportunities, and family connection events. I also serve on the Facilities Coordination Team, making sure events are scheduled smoothly, and keep our membership database (REALM) up to date. I collaborate with Megan Allen-Miller on community outreach and finding ways to connect the church community. I oversee the kitchen and manage “A Place At The Table” ministry. I also meet with the Congregational Life Mission Team to dream up and plan upcoming programs and events.

Q: What are your biggest goals for Congregational Life this coming year?

A: I’d love for the Congregational Life Mission Team to clearly and thoughtfully answer questions like: “What is Congregational Life?”, “Why is this team so important?”, and “How do we recognize when we’ve achieved our purpose?” Once we have that clarity, I want to share it with the congregation to inspire and engage everyone!

Q: What’s one thing you wish more people knew about this ministry?

A: I’d love for people to realize that they are already an integral part of Congregational Life. Every member is empowered to participate in and even lead ministry activities—they’re just as much a part of the community as anyone else!
