Every Sunday since 1983, A Place at the Table has welcomed neighbors to Trinity for a hot meal and fellowship.
A recent article from Signal Cleveland offers a glimpse into a Sunday at Trinity, when about a dozen people gathered outside before the doors opened. Inside, guests received tickets for a meal of chicken parmesan, salad, bread, a cookie, and lemonade. Some arrived alone, while others came with family.
But the article also highlights the growing challenges facing hot meal programs throughout Cleveland.
A Growing Need
In 2025, the Cleveland Hunger Network lost federal funding that helped support Trinity and more than a dozen other hot meal sites across the city. At Trinity, that funding had covered about one in four meals each month.
Despite the loss of funding, A Place at the Table continues to serve our neighbors. With more meals being served each week, however, Trinity is relying more heavily on community support to sustain this ministry.
Eric Travis, who leads A Place at the Table, told Signal Cleveland that Trinity has enough reserves to continue the program for a little over a year. In the meantime, the ministry is carefully watching food costs, purchasing primarily from discount grocery stores, and being mindful of portions and food waste.
The article also describes how other hot meal sites across Cleveland are facing difficult choices, with some cutting back their schedules and others relying on personal contributions from volunteers to keep their programs going.
Help Support A Place at the Table
A Place at the Table is seeking both financial support and additional volunteers.
As Trinity temporarily relocates the meal program to the storefront space along Euclid Avenue during construction in Cathedral Hall, 1 to 2 additional volunteers are needed each week to help with hospitality, serving meals, and offering beverages to guests.
