The Dean’s Corner: Feeding the Hungry

Feeding the Hungry

The Very Rev. Bernard J OwensThis past week, Trinity was awarded a Rapid Response Grant from the Cleveland Foundation for our ministries that support folks particularly impacted by the COVID-19 economic downturn. Two of our ongoing ministries – our Sunday A Place at the Table lunch ministry and Wall of Love – have met a rising need these past few months amid challenging circumstances, and this grant of $30,000 goes a long way to support them. This allows us to purchase supplies for the Wall of Love (and offer support to the wider Walls of Love ministry with which Trinity partners) as well as boxed lunches and personal protective gear that allows us not only to nourish our Sunday guests, but to keep them safe as well.

Trinity is in good company: a number of impactful area nonprofits, including Greater Cleveland Congregations, were recipients of this Rapid Response grant. I am very grateful to the Cleveland Foundation for their timely deployment of needed resources and for welcoming Trinity as a partner in serving the needs of our community. I am also grateful for Trinity leadership – including vestry member Linda Lee and staff members Marisa Marflak and Diane Swander – for their work in securing this grant.

I also thank those who continue to serve through the Wall of Love and A Place at the Table. The Gospel of Matthew reminds us: “When I was hungry, you fed me.” Thank you for being the hands and feet of Christ in the world.
