Featured Choral Evensong from Wednesday, October 9, 2019

Wilfred Thomason Grenfell

This week’s featured Choral Evensong service was sung by the Trinity Chamber Singers just over a year ago, on October 9, 2019. The Rev. Adrienne Koch (Priest Associate at Trinity Cathedral) was Officiant, and the Homilist was the Rev. David Bargetzi (retired rector of St. Luke’s, Cleveland). We commemorated Wilfred Thomason Grenfell, medical missionary to Newfoundland, who died on Oct. 9, 1940.

The Responses are set to music by Jeremy Jackman (b. 1952), one of the founders of the famous English vocal group The Kings’s Singers. The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis are from the Short Service by Thomas Tallis (1505-1585), one of the greatest English composers of any era. The anthem is a recent work entitled “My Love” by the superb American musician James Buonemani (b. 1956), director of music at St. James Episcopal Church in Los Angeles.
