Featured Choral Evensong from Wednesday, February 27, 2019

George Herbert

This week’s featured Choral Evensong was sung by the high voices (sopranos and altos) of the Cathedral Choir on February 27, 2019. On that evening we commemorated the great English poet and priest, George Herbert (1593-1633). It was a joy to have the Rev. Peter Faass, Rector of Christ Church, Shaker Heights, as the homilist.

The canticles (Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis) were sung to the Second Service by Philip Moore. Born in 1943, Philip Moore was Organist at Guildford Cathedral and then went on to serve in the same capacity for 25 years at York Minster.  The anthem that evening was Franz Schubert’s memorably melodious setting of the 23rd psalm (The Lord is my Shepherd).
