Featured Choral Evensong from Wednesday, October 9, 2019
Wilfred Thomason Grenfell
This week’s featured Choral Evensong service was sung by the Trinity Chamber Singers on October 9, 2019. The Rev. Adrienne Koch (Priest Associate at Trinity Cathedral) was the officiant, and the Rev. David Bargetzi (recently retired rector of St. Luke’s, Cleveland) was homilist as we commemorated Wilfred Thomason Grenfel, medical missionary to Newfoundland.
The Responses are set to music by Jeremy Jackman (b. 1952), one of the founders of the renowned English vocal group The King’s Singers. The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis are from the Short Service by Thomas Tallis (1505-1585), one of the greatest English composers of any era, and the anthem is a recent composition entitled “My Love,” by James Buonemani (b. 1956), organist and director of music at St. James Episcopal Church in Los Angeles.
