UPDATE: Chair Replacement Project

UPDATE: Chair Replacement Project

Just in time for Christmas! Five hundred eighty (580) new cathedral chairs will arrive this month. Trinity’s new chairs are the same Howe chairs used in St. Paul’s Cathedral, London for over 40 years. The chairs are the first project made possible by proceeds from Trinity’s “From Generation to Generation” capital campaign launched last year. Our new chairs will be in place for Christmas services and the New Year.

The last service with our current chairs will be Sunday, December 17. The chairs will then be donated to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Brecksville for their interim use and the broken chairs will be given to Old School Architectural Salvage Company. Several chairs will be kept for Trinity’s historical collection.

In preparation, all of the plaques on our current chairs have been carefully removed — most without bending or twisting, but they cannot be installed on the new chairs. The plaques were engraved with memorial, tribute or gratitude messages written by those who contributed to purchase (1994) or repair the chairs (2013-2015). These donors have been contacted and their plaques have been offered to them as keepsakes. The plaques can be picked up on December 10 and December 17 in the Promenade.

You can view a listing of the chair plaques by donor last name HERE.
There are plans to make a display of the plaque messages and donors in 2018.

The chairs have served Trinity members and visitors for over 23 years and were at the end of their useful life. We look forward to our new chairs that will be with us at least that and more. We are grateful to the many generous capital campaign gifts that made this chair replacement project possible.
