Cathedral Council Report

Cathedral Council Report

Trinity Cathedral
May 7, 2017 ANNUAL MEETING
Report by Dale Murphy, Chair of Cathedral Council

Cathedral Council is responsible for overseeing and advising the Vestry on matters concerning the mission, ministries, outreach and congregational life of the Cathedral. Whereas, the Vestry oversees the body or physical side of the Cathedral, Cathedral Council oversees the spiritual or soul of the Cathedral.

In this Bicentennial year, the Council has been in the process of identifying, updating and apprising the various ministries of the Cathedral. After having identified the “active” ministries, Council is now in the process of updating and revising the Ministries booklet. As part of this revision/update, we have asked the Ministry leaders to write an “updated” description of their ministry. Some of the ministries have reported “updated” names to more correctly reflect their mission/ministry.  An example, “Bible Study” is now “Community Gospel Reflection”. This “revised” booklet will become available at the Fall Ministry/Discovery Day in September. Plans are also to have the booklet available online at that time.

To better appraise our relationships with our ministries, Council has and will be asking our various Ministry leaders to attend Council meetings to discuss their ministry. Council has created a list of 5 conversational questions, basically; who, what, why, when and how. By discussing the ministry in the context of these questions, our hope is to establish a better working relationship between Council and the ministry. Since our relationship is a two-way street, as part of the “how” conversation, Council will be asking “how” we can help the ministry. An example of these Council/Ministry leader conversations, Scott Blanchard, Urban Farm ministry leader will be attending our meeting this Tuesday to discuss and offer a presentation of that ministry.

Trinity Cathedral’s mission is to proclaim in word and action God’s justice, love and mercy for all creation. We as a congregation, through our ministries and outreach, fulfill this mission every day. On behalf of Cathedral Council, thank you for your support of all of our ministries and outreach.
