As you may have heard, our beloved Dean Tracey Lind has announced her retirement from Trinity Cathedral due to sudden and serious health issues. (Read the Dean’s open letter.) Tracey’s last day at Trinity will be Sunday, January 29, 2017. She will be preaching at all three services (8:00, 9:00, and 11:15 a.m.)
Tracey’s 17 years at the helm of Trinity Cathedral have been nothing short of remarkable. We are grateful for her “all are welcome” ministry and her tireless advocacy for economic, social and criminal justice throughout the Greater Cleveland community. Please join us for a reception to honor Tracey on Wednesday, January 25, 2017 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Trinity Cathedral.
In the days since Tracey’s announcement, many have asked about a gift in her honor. In response, she has recorded an audio message, transcribed below:
“For 200 years, Trinity has changed hundreds of thousands of lives through prayer, worship, music, art, education, social justice, outreach and hospitality. I have been privileged to serve as dean of Trinity Cathedral for the last 17 of those years.
“This past fall, we launched the “From Generation to Generation” capital campaign to prepare for and expand Trinity’s service in its third century. With campaign funds, we will preserve and modernize our buildings–including the historic Cathedral–to make them safe and accessible for our members, friends, diocese, civic partners, and the growing downtown community. The campaign also will increase our endowment so that we can provide for the children and young adults in our midst, as well as the elderly, the hungry and the homeless.
As I begin my leave-taking, I have no doubt that Trinity Cathedral will go from strength to strength and that includes finishing our bicentennial campaign. I had planned to be here to the finish, but you know that I will be here in prayer to support this most worthy endeavor. It is the loving legacy of this generation to the next.”
We are committed to finishing the “From Generation to Generation” campaign that Tracey led us to begin. As indicated by Tracey’s own words above, your donation or pledge to Trinity’s capital campaign will be a tribute to her. It is a most appropriate way to honor Tracey’s service at Trinity and to ensure that the spirit of her work is carried forward.
We thank you for your support of Trinity and hope you can join us on January 25 to wish Tracey the very best on the next leg of her life’s journey.
