The Season of Advent is a season of expectant waiting. Unfortunately, in our social context, this opportunity to prepare our selves for the Advent of the Kingdom of God is truncated (at best) or lost in the commercial rush toward Christmas. With the societal drive to Christmas — now in full swing by Halloween — there is no longer space within our culture for expectant waiting and preparation. This year Trinity Cathedral will observe the ancient practice of observing a seven week Season of Advent. This forum will focus on the history of the Season of Advent, the themes of the Season as heard in Scripture, the reality of our societal rush to Christmas and how we can reclaim a season of anticipation, reflection, preparation that not only sets the tone for Christmas but for the liturgical year.
