Marion-Sterling school has a great need for tutoring services as many of the students’ skills are below grade level and the children need more personalized help to fill in gaps and make up deficits. There are three ways you can help.
- In-Class Tutoring & Small Group SupportProvide assistance in language arts and/or mathematics at any grade level. Working under the direction of the classroom teacher, you may be asked to help students individually or in small groups practice skills presented by the teacher, read with the students, help with basic math problems, or help with basic housekeeping chores in the classroom.
- As a Trinity volunteer, you will need to complete the Safeguarding God’s Children program sponsored by Trinity, complete a simple disclosure form at Marion-Sterling, and visit the CMSD Safety and Security facility at 79th and Superior to have your picture taken for your volunteer badge. To learn more or volunteer as an academic tutor, please contact Trinity member Jim Burger
- Non-Tutoring Classroom AssistanceProvide non-tutoring services for classroom teachers such as designing bulletin boards, decorating the classroom, organizing classroom libraries, or other support activities. You will need to follow the same process for getting your volunteer badge as outlined above.
- Tutoring Outside the Classroom
You can provide individual and/or small group tutoring outside the classroom at the request of one or more classroom teachers. To obtain a higher-level volunteer badge, you will need to complete all of the steps outlined above, plus pay $46.00 (money order only) for a full background check by CMSD. Trinity member Jim Pearce will be happy to guide you through this process.
We hope you will consider joining us to make a difference in the lives of these young students!
