Mozart and Duruflé: Daniel Hathaway

Sunday, March 9 from 10:10 am- 11 am, Canon Hathaway presented a forum discussing the differences in approach the two composers took in setting a traditional liturgical form to music.

The Mozart Requiem was left unfinished at the time of the composer’s death, and the work was completed by a student, Franz Süssmeyer. Robert Levin, professor of music at Harvard, has studied the work since his undergraduate days, and published his own completion of the work for the Mozart bicentennial in 1991. The Good Friday concert will use Levin’s version of the piece.
