Bio: The Reverend Canon Kay Rackley
The Reverend Canon Kay Rackley was installed as the Canon of Trinity Cathedral in May 2015. As the Canon, she oversees the worship and liturgy, faith formation for all ages, congregational life, pastoral care and the ministry programs of the Cathedral. She works closely with the Cathedral’s leadership concerning the vision, ministry and mission of the Cathedral congregation and how to live into our calling.
Kay came to Trinity Cathedral in May 2013 to serve as the part-time associate for adult formation. She became the full-time associate priest in 2015. Prior to Trinity Cathedral, Kay served as the associate rector at Christ Church, Hudson, OH; vicar of the Church of the Ascension in Advance, NC; assistant rector of St. Paul’s in Wilkesboro, NC; and campus minister at Appalachian State University. She also served at Christ Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. While in North Carolina, Kay served as the Dean of the Winston-Salem Convocation and the chair of the Chartered Committee for Christian Formation in the Diocese of North Carolina.
Kay has an undergraduate degree in Biblical Education with a minor in Greek from Lee College. In 1999, Kay received her Master of Divinity Degree from the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. In 2011, Kay completed a Master of Arts Degree in Wisdom Spirituality from Wisdom University, and has completed the course work for the Doctor of Ministry program at Wisdom University.
Prior to seminary, Kay received a Regular Army commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Signal Corps of the United States Army. As part of her training, Kay attended Airborne School where she earned her paratrooper wings. During her time in the Army, she served overseas in Germany and Saudi Arabia, and in the States she served at Fort Bragg, NC and Fort Gordon, GA. She was medically retired as a Captain after almost ten years of service.
