Education for Ministry: An Introduction
Sunday, May 30, 10:10 am

Through our Baptism, we are all ministers. In our worlds of work, school, neighborhood, and family there are people in pain who need to be comforted and people whose joy needs to be shared. The depressed and hopeless need help to regain their hope. Someone has to sort through the ethics at work, at school, or in the community. Someone needs to listen to co-workers or neighbors in crisis and in joy. Most of the time, there is no ordained priest around to do the ministering. Either we do it or it doesn't get done.

Here at Trinity, we offer Education for Ministry (EfM)--a program designed to prepare us for our ministry. The EfM program is four years of study that follows closely what our priests learn in seminary. We don't do in-depth study of Romans, or learn how to administer a parish, or how to preach; instead we undertake a comprehensive study of the Bible, church history, and theology. We also pray together and use a process called Theological Reflection to discuss how our faith affects our daily lives.
