GCC Action Team Meeting: Education

Trinity members who are educators, parents of Sunday school children, volunteers at Marion-Sterling or otherwise passionate about improving education in the greater Cleveland area are invited to the GCC Trinity Education Team meeting on Sept. 8 from 6-8 p.m. Meet in the choir room to discuss: what are the key issues in education in the Cleveland area at this time; potential solutions; and what solutions can have an important, and possibly immediate, impact. Let David Crampton or Jim Pearce know if you plan to attend. If you are unable to attend, but would like to meet with either, feel free to reach out to them and offer your input.

 

Greater Cleveland Congregations -“Faith and Compassion in Action”

In 2010, a partnership was formed of more than 40 diverse congregations and partner organizations in the Cleveland area to build power for social justice, uniting people across lines of race, class religion and geography, strengthening the quality of life in our diverse neighborhoods. Upcoming GCC Issue Team Captains Meetings

Greater Cleveland Congregations is moving into a season of heavy research and strategy discussion for its issue campaigns. The organization will convene issue team captains meetings in late October/ early November to discuss what we have learned to date and to create a power analysis for the region based on that information. Intensive Organizing Training Opportunity:
Last winter 13 leaders from GCC attended the Industrial Areas Foundation national training at Drew University. In 2012, training will be held Jan. 16-Jan. 20. GCC is hoping for a strong delegation to attend this year. GCC will cover the cost of tuition, and can give scholarships for transporation and lodging (pricing information to come). GCC Action Team Meeting: Jobs Forum

Trinity’s GCC Jobs Action Team will hold an open forum on Aug. 28 at 9 a.m. to discuss jobs in Cleveland. Individuals from all sides of the jobs issue are welcome, from hiring managers to those currently searching for a new opportunity to entrepreneurs. The purpose of the meeting is to identify passions and needs in the Trinity community related to this important issue. Support the GCC Kickoff
Join Trinity and other area churches, synagogues and mosques for the Greater Cleveland Congregations (GCC) public kickoff event June 6.

 

Not only will the meeting serve as a pep rally, but also as a public commitment that the congregations and organizations involved stand behind the five issues voted on at the GCC Issue Convention. In addition, powerbrokers from each of the five areas–education, jobs, criminal justice, hunger/environment and healthcare–will be invited.

“More than just gaining attention, this is about making things happen,” says the Rev. Will Mebane. “It’s about doing something, about really taking action.”
