Ministry Moments

Trinity Cathedral is in the midst of Stewardship Season, a time every fall when our members renew their commitment of support for the Cathedral and its ministry during the upcoming year. As we lead up to Stewardship Sunday on Oct. 28, parishioners share why they pledge their support to Trinity. Click here for a letter from Trinity’s Wardens.

Trinity’s members come from all walks of life and from across Greater Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Some people are new to our community of faith, while others have been members of Trinity since birth. Regardless of the path that brought us to Trinity, we all support the congregation with our time, talent and treasure. Learn more about our stories and why we give to Trinity:

Life changes in the instant.

In her memoir, The Year of Magical Thinking, Joan Didion, writes that those were the first words she wrote following the sudden death of her husband.

Life changes in the instant.

For a long time she wrote nothing else.

Good Morning, fellow Trinitarians. It’s an honor, believe it or not, to get to be one of the folks who shares a word during this season of stewardship. I actually like stewardship season, because it’s a chance for Thomas and me to slow down and take a look at our priorities – to see if what we are spending still reflects what we value.

It is easy to carry a torch down the aisle; for me it is more meaningful when thought of as helping to light the way to a closer relationship with God. It is easy to read a short passage; for me it is more meaningful when thought of as sharing the word of God in wonder and humility. It is easy to take communion to a shut-in; for me it is more meaningful when thought of as tending to the health of the body.

I don’t know what it was. I’d like to think it’s the grace of God. But I was enveloped in something that I’ve come to think of and call “mother Trinity.” It wasn’t the welcome of one particular person or a group of people it was the welcome of the spirit of this place. And I was deeply touched.

Stewardship and pledging for many of us is a spiritual practice but I also want to remind you it’s a matter of survival. And all of these programs and all of the things that we do for each other hinge on us staying together and surviving as we as Trinity as one.

I see God in the molecules – in the details of how our world is stitched together. There is a beauty and romance to chemistry.

…I see God in the people of Trinity Cathedral – in the details and diversity of who we are. Out of chaos, we are rebuilding and re-imagining a sustainable Cleveland. Out of disorder and disrepair we are growing sustainable food and feeding our neighbors.

I am blessed to have served on many committees here at the church…a Place at the Table, wonderful; health and wellness; and the Friday backpacks. Those are outstanding things for me that give me great feelings of goodness and giveback to myself and the Cathedral.
